  "textContent": "An adjustable control pedal assembly (12) for a motor vehicle includes an upper carrier structure (14) and a pedal arm (28) extending downwardly from the carrier structure. The carrier structure is slidably mounted on a hollow guide rod (16) extending rearwardly from a transmission housing. A nut (32) is positioned slidably within the hollow guide rod and a screw shaft (48) extends rearwardly from the transmission housing for threaded engagement with the nut. The nut is drivingly connected to the carrier structure so that linear movement of the nut within the hollow rod upon rotation of the screw shaft produces movement of the pedal assembly along the guide rod. In a first mechanical embodiment, the transmission housing is mounted on an arm which is pivotally mounted on the vehicle firewall (22). In a second electronic or drive-by-wire embodiment, the transmission housing is fixedly mounted on the vehicle firewall and the pedal arm is pivotally mounted on the carrier structure and controls a potentiometer carried by the carrier structure.",
