The invention relates to a lighting device, in particular a position light, for vehicles with a housing in which at least one light source is arranged and with a light disc covering an opening of the housing, wherein the light source is designed as a number of light-emitting diodes (5,7), whereby on the one hand a light field (13) formed by a plurality of identical first light-emitting diodes (5) for generating a basic luminous intensity distribution (GL) and on the other hand at least one further second light-emitting diode (7) for generating a preferred luminous intensity distribution (VL) are provided, so that by superposition of the basic luminous intensity distribution (GL) and the preferred luminous intensity distribution (VL) a predetermined total luminous intensity distribution (R) is formed.
