Combined instrument for a motor vehicle

The dashboard combination instrument includes an LC display. An optical waveguide (4) is also provided, into which the ambient light from inside or outside the vehicle is coupled. The light coupled into the waveguide is guided by total internal reflection to the side of the display furthest from the user. A coating or structure (29) is provided on the side of the display furthest from the user for sending out the ambient light from the waveguide and for coupling the ambient light into the display.
