The method involves computing the current transverse axis inclination angle using a signal from a gyro sensor detecting rotation about the longitudinal axis and a transverse axis initial position sensor signal, generating a triggering threshold from a static tilt angle, a vehicle constant and the rotation rate, comparing the absolute inclination angle with the threshold and generating a safety device triggering signal if the threshold is exceeded. The method involves computing the current inclination angle of the transverse axis of the vehicle using a rotation rate signal from a gyro sensor (1) detecting rotation about the longitudinal axis and a signal from a sensor (2) detecting the initial position of the transverse axis, generating (6) a triggering threshold from a static tilt angle, a vehicle constant and the rotation rate, comparing the absolute inclination angle with the threshold and generating a safety device triggering signal if the threshold is exceeded.
