A computer controls a pump for adding the additive to the fuel in response to the fuel level in the tank. This may be linked to the dashboard indicator. Addition of the additive is controlled in response to a number of parameters, including the stroke of the engine, the vehicle speed, injector fuel consumption, stopping of the engine and diagnostic information from the dashboard. The vehicle includes a fuel tank provided with a level gauge, and an additive tank mounted underneath the fuel tank. This contains a micro-dosing pump, a stopper, and a thermistor which is able to detect the level of additive in the tank. Addition of the additive is controlled in response to a number of parameters, including the stroke of the engine, the vehicle speed, injector fuel consumption, stopping of the engine and diagnostic information from the dashboard. The system keeps permanent track of the quantity of fuel in the tank, and the consumption of fuel, in order to control the addition of the additive.
