In a retractable assist grip in which a grip body 1 rotatably supported on a mount 7 is urged into swing motion from the use position to the retracted position, one side surface of a supporting part 11 of the mount 7 is formed integrally with s fulcrum pin 12 extending therefrom. A pin support 3 of a leg 1a of the grip body 1 is journaled on the fulcrum pin 12. On the other side surface of the supporting part 11, a recess 13 and a loose-fit pin 14 extending inside the recess 13 from the bottom of the recess are formed coaxially with the fulcrum pin 12. The leg 1a of the grip body 1 is assembled against relative rotation with a spacer 18 rotatably inserted into the recess 13 and including a pin loose-fitting part 22 for loosely receiving the loose-fit pin 14 therein. A viscidity L is provided between the outer periphery of the spacer 18 and the inner periphery of the recess 13 of the mount 7, thereby forming a damper 23. Further, a locking pin 123 is retained prior to the mounting of the grip body 1 to the mount 103A. With the mount body 109 engaged to the periphery of a mounting hole p1 of an inner panel P from the front side thereof, the locking pin 123 is moved opposite to a direction of insertion thereof by the swing motion of the grip body 1 to the use position so that an extension 129 at the distal end of the locking pin 123 is retained at a locking position, thereby holding flexible engaging pieces 119 extending from the back of the mount body in engagement on the periphery of the mounting hole p1.
