The system intervenes in the torque of the drive unit and/or in the brake unit if a defined threshold is exceeded by a parameter describing wheel characteristics. At least one control signal is formed with at least one variable parameter. The gradient of the road on which the vehicle is traveling is determined and the variable parameter of the control signal(s) specified depending on the detected gradient.
