The alarm/controller detects misfiring of the engines fuel pump (10). It includes a fuel level sensing unit (34) to which detects when the fuel has fallen below a second level less than a first minimum level from which an alarm (32) is triggered to warn that filling is required. The sensing unit computes the distance traveled from detection of the first minimum fuel level another unit (36) compares this distance with a set limit (Dr). The alarm/controller includes a unit (40), triggered by the sensor, which reduces the engines performance and a unit (52) which slows down the engine operating regime when the sensor indicates falling fuel level, by interrupting the fuel supply. The unit (36) determines fuel consumption from detection of the first minimum level and a unit (42) compares this fuel consumption with a set limit (Vf). The engine includes a fuel filling regulator (20) and the sensor includes a unit (39) to monitor an error signal of the regulator by comparing it with a set limit.
