Fuel injection system comprising a piezoelectric element for controlling the amount of injected fuel into a combustion engine, the fuel injection system further comprising a driving circuitry for driving the piezoelectric element, the driving circuitry comprising a buffer capacitor, wherein the voltage across the buffer capacitor and/or the charge the buffer capacitor is carrying is measured.
