Method and device for decreasing the start time of CO-oxydation catalysts in mobile fuel cell systems

DRIVE September 19, 2001
Source
Process for shortening the cold start time of a CO oxidation catalyst (8) in a reformate gas of a fuel cell system (6) of a vehicle comprises adsorbing start-delaying gas components from the reformate gas in an adsorber (1) during the cooling phase after switching off the vehicle. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process comprising an adsorber (1) limited by a housing (2) and having a pipe for introducing the reformate gas. The space between the outer housing and the pipe is filled with adsorber material. Preferred Features: The adsorber is arranged upstream of the CO oxidation catalyst. Additional air is added to the adsorber. The reformate gas is produced in a thermally insulated reformer.
