An engine control system performs a diagnosis of abnormality of fuel injection control on the basis of fuel pressure in a common rail after fuel injection through a fuel injector that is detected after pulsation of the fuel pressure in the common rail pressure caused by the fuel injection has attenuated as small as having no substantial effect on the diagnosis of abnormality.
