Metal wheel rim for utility vehicles

DRIVE August 8, 2001
Source
A metal rim for commercial vehicles is proposed, which contains a rim ring (12) for receiving a tire, a wheel disc (14) attached thereto, and a reinforcing disc (26). The wheel disc (14) has at least one wheel bolt circle for fastening to an axle flange. The reinforcing disc (26) is bolted concentrically to the wheel disc (14) or wheel plate, and its outer diameter is larger than that of the axle flange. In order to ensure high bending strength and to avoid stiffness jumps in the region of the highest bending load of the wheel disc (14), it is proposed to design the wheel disc (14) and/or the reinforcing disc (26) as substantially curved and to arrange them such that a cavity is created between the wheel disc (14) and the reinforcing disc (26). Spacer means (22) are arranged in this cavity.
