The cladding element comprises a plate-shaped, self-supporting stiff component of thermoplastic material, which is formed at as a hollow body with a cavity inside, and a sound-absorbent filling of foamed thermoplastic material at accommodated in the cavity. The cladding element is produced by extrusion blow molding. The cavity may be sub-divided into a number of sub-volumes having a box-shape. The foamed thermoplastic material accommodated in the cavity of the hollow body may be in the form of plastic beads introduced into the cavity under pressure with concomitant increase in volume subsequent to introduction.
