If there is an error the controller adjusts the suspension device for a minimum period irrespective of actual vertical position variation and then switches off the adjustment at a time at which the detected actual vertical position first reaches the desired position. The system has a height sensor for detecting the actual vertical distance between a vehicle wheel and the vehicle structure and an electronic controller that specifies the desired distance and adjusts the wheel suspension until achieving the desired distance if there is an error. If there is an error the controller adjusts the suspension device for a minimum period irrespective of the variation in the actual vertical position and after expiry of this time switches off the adjustment at a time at which the detected actual vertical position first reaches the desired position.",
