The deformation element(6) which may be fitted in the cavities between body parts and inner trim of the vehicle has a strip which is deformable over its longitudinal extent and conformable to the outer contoured shape of the body parts. The strip has several deformable sections(12) over its longitudinal extent and these present a resistance perpendicular to the outer wall of the body part encompassed by the strip. The deformation element over its longitudinal extent in the installed position extends around the columns of the vehicle in semi-circular fashion.
