Process for oxidizing nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and carbon particles in I.C. engine exhaust gas comprises providing the surfaces in contact with the exhaust gas in the region between an outlet valve and the exit of an exhaust gas turbine with a catalytically active coating containing platinum and/or palladium.
