Process and apparatus for purifying the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a method for purifying exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine (1), in particular a diesel internal combustion engine, with a particle filter (8) in an exhaust line (3) of the internal combustion engine (1), in which particles contained in the exhaust gas are filtered with the particle filter. In order to enable improved oxidation of the particles, the NO2 content and the C content in the exhaust gas are determined and, when falling below and/or exceeding certain value ranges in the exhaust gas, the NO2 content and/or the C content in the exhaust gas is increased or decreased such that the contents lie within the specified value ranges.
