A simulator (11) equipped with at least one microprocessor (14) addresses simulation input signals (E) to the unit under test (1) and receives output signals (S) from it in reaction. The method consists in processing, as they are emitted, certain (S) output signals from the unit by means of at least one programmable logic circuit (18), in storing parameter values corresponding to these processed signals and in giving the microprocessor (14) access to the stored parameter values, at a frequency compatible with its operating speed. The simulator (11) comprises at least one programmable logic circuit (18), for example of FPGA type, capable of receiving certain (S) at least of the output signals (S) from the electronic unit (1).
