Xiaomi 17 Max is official

Xiaomi has added a new device to its 17 series: the Xiaomi 17 Max. This after the Xiaomi 17 and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. As the name suggests, this model is mainly about size, battery life and powerful hardware. The huge 8000mAh battery in particular immediately catches the eye.

According to Xiaomi, with normal use, you should be able to go well over two days without recharging. That's remarkable in a market where most flagships stick around 5000 mAh. The battery uses silicon-carbon technology, which allows for more capacity without making the device extremely thick.

On the camera front, Xiaomi also packs heavily. The main camera uses a 200-megapixel sensor from Samsung, combined with optical image stabilisation. You also get a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom and macro function, plus a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. For selfies, there is a 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

On the front, you will also find a large 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. With this, Xiaomi seems to be clearly betting on multimedia, gaming and outdoor use in bright sunlight.

Under the bonnet, the Xiaomi 17 Max runs on Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. Depending on the version, you get up to 16GB of working memory and 512GB of storage. The device runs on HyperOS 3, based on Android 16.

Despite the large battery, the smartphone still supports fast charging. Via a cable you charge with up to 100 watts, wirelessly up to 50 watts. In addition, the device can also serve as a power bank to charge other devices. Remarkably, Xiaomi does not opt for extra screens or experimental designs with this model, as with some other recent models. The focus here is mainly on practical specifications: long battery life, powerful cameras and solid performance.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi 17 Max is fully dust- and water-resistant according to IP68 and IP69. That means the device should be more resistant to water, dust and harsh conditions. The smartphone will appear in China in black, white and blue. The starting price is converted to around 600 euros, depending on the storage variant chosen. If and when the Xiaomi 17 Max will officially come to Europe is not yet known. At least it won't be for 600 euros then, as there will be taxes and such on top of this. However, you can score the 17 and 17 Ultra for a very interesting price this week.

In China, you can also already score the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max. These stand out because of the screen on the back of the device. Those two models are not coming to our continent either.
