  "textContent": "Rome, Turin, Ancona, Bari and Palermo to stage performances on 6 July in honour of Morricone.\nFive Italian cities will honour Ennio Morricone with free concerts on Monday 6 July, the sixth anniversary of the death of the Oscar-winning composer whose scores shaped the sound of Italian and world cinema.\n \nThe initiative, promoted by the Fondazione Ennio Morricone, brings together five leading cultural and musical institutions, five orchestras and five conductors in Rome, Turin, Ancona, Bari and Palermo, all performing the composer's works simultaneously in theatres and public squares.\n \nMaestro's best-loved scores\nIn Bari, the Petruzzelli Foundation orchestra will give a live performance of the soundtrack to Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, Giuseppe Tornatore's Oscar-winning film. The concert by the National Symphony Orchestra of RAI will be broadcast live on RAI Radio 3, which will also air a recording of a concert held the previous evening in Venice's Piazza San Marco, featuring the orchestra and choir of the Teatro La Fenice.\n \nRAI Radio 3 is dedicating the whole day's programming to Morricone's life and work.\n \nAncona's tribute takes place at the Teatro delle Muse, Palermo's at the Teatro Massimo, and Turin's at the Auditorium Arturo Toscanini.\nRome concert set against the composer's former home\nIn Rome, the concert will be held in Piazza del Campidoglio, directly opposite the building where Morricone lived, in an event staged jointly by Roma Capitale and the Fondazione Ennio Morricone.\n \nIt will be conducted by fellow Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani, a close friend of Morricone's, leading the Roma Sinfonietta orchestra - the ensemble that accompanied the maestro at his own concerts for many years.\n \nThe Rome programme, which begins at 21.00, features soprano Vittoriana De Amicis, violinist Vincenzo Bolognese and pianist Antonello Maio, together with the Nuovo Coro Lirico Sinfonico Romano and the Coro Claudio Casini of Rome's Tor Vergata University.\n \nThe setlist spans scores including Once Upon a Time in America, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, Cinema Paradiso and The Mission soundtrack, among others.\nAnniversary before centenary\nFondazione president Walter Veltroni said the tributes mark the anniversary of Morricone's death, with further commemorations planned in 2028 for the centenary of his birth.\n \nHe described Morricone as a figure whose music unites Italians, combining Italy's finest musical tradition with an unmatched ability to reach a mass audience, and called his legacy above all an emotional one - rooted in the feelings his music evokes through the films and songs it accompanied.\n \nPhoto credit: Dziurek / Shutterstock.com",
