No fatalities.\nA tornado struck northern districts of Rome on Wednesday morning, causing widespread damage, disrupting traffic and leaving several people with minor injuries.\n \nA violent downpour and tornado, or tromba d'aria, struck Rome, hitting particularly the Prati Fiscali and Conca d'Oro areas. The severe weather caused flooding, fallen branches and trees across roads, homes and vehicles, and serious disruption to traffic across parts of the city.\n \nThe worst effects were felt in the Nomentano, Salario and Parioli districts to the north of the centre. On the eastern ring road (Tangenziale Est), carriageways were narrowed at multiple points by fallen branches.\n \nAt Conca d'Oro, a market stall was lifted by the vortex and landed on a parked car. The tornado also stripped the roofs from several houses in the Nuovo Salario neighbourhood.\n \nRome's mayor Roberto Gualtieri said monitoring stations - though not those closest to the epicentre - recorded wind speeds of 90 kilometres per hour, suggesting gusts at the centre of the storm exceeded 100 km/h.\n \n\n\nUn tornado colpisce #Roma. According to the mayor, around 60 trees fell on public and private land, on streets including Via Val Pellice, Via Salviucci, Via del Prato della Signora, Viale della Moschea, and Via del Foro Italico.\n \nThere was also damage reported to traffic lights, the roof of the Conca d'Oro local market, and a petrol station.On Via dei Prati Fiscali, a large fallen pine blocked the road entirely, and several people sustained minor injuries when trees crashed down on passing vehicles, including a Maserati driver who told reporters that a large plane tree landed \"two centimetres from my nose\".\n \nA section of the Tangenziale Est was closed after a tree fell onto the carriageway, blocking traffic in both directions; the fallen tree struck several cars but caused no fatalities.\n \nThe day had been under a low-level yellow weather alert for Rome, though the tornado developed suddenly and exceeded the anticipated severity.\n \nCivil protection teams were deployed, and police, firefighters and municipal officers worked throughout the day to restore safety and reopen roads.",
