  "textContent": "Legendary car rally rolls into Rome on 11 June.\nThe 2026 edition of the Mille Miglia rally will see more than 400 classic and vintage cars travel from the north Italian city of Brescia to Rome and back again this June.\n\nOne of the world’s oldest car rallies, the Mille Miglia began as a race in 1927, taking place 24 times until 1957 and bringing international fame to luxury sports cars including Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche.\n\n\nHistory of the Mille Miglia car race\n\nCelebrating its 44th edition, the five-day event will follow the traditional roundtrip route, from Brescia to Rome and back, between 9 and 13 June.\n\n \n\n\nMille Miglia in Brescia, October 2020. Photo credit: Artyart / Shutterstock.com.\n\n \n\nDesigned exclusively for classic and vintage cars, the 1,800-km Mille Miglia has been a regularity race since 1977, meaning that it is more of a rally than a contest, with precise average speeds maintained throughout.\n\nTeams come from all over the world, and the event is only open to cars produced before 1957 and selected from the models which took part in the original race.\n\n\nMille Miglia. Photo credit: Zakrevsky Andrey / Shutterstock.com.\n\n \n\nThe cars are expected to arrive in Rome on the evening of Thursday 11 June on Via Veneto - where car fans traditionally gather to admire the spectacle - before the rally continues its journey back north early the next day.\n\nThe arrival of the 1000 Miglia in Rome normally results in the closure of Via Veneto and the re-routing of numerous bus services in the city.\n\nFor 2026 programme details, in English, see the 1000 Miglia website. Photo credit: TinoFotografie / Shutterstock.com",
