  "textContent": "Italian museums mark Giornata internazionale della Donna.\nWomen will have free entry to Italy's state museums and archaeological sites on Sunday 8 March as part of an initiative by the culture ministry to mark International Women's Day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to offering free entry, Italy's museums will host a series of special events throughout the day dedicated to women, listed on the culture ministry website.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmong the landmark cultural venues free for women in Italy on 8 March are the Colosseum, the Herculaneum archaeological park, Palazzo Barberini in Rome and the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to free museum openings, numerous initiatives have been organised \"to raise awareness and reflect on the cultural importance of the day\", according to the culture ministry.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe free entry for women in Italy's museums on 8 March was preceded by the free opening to all visitors of Italy's state museums and archaeological sites, on Sunday 1 March.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInternational Women's Day is celebrated around the world on 8 March, serving as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto credit: Pierre Aden / Shutterstock.com.",
