Rustlings — First Steps into Rust

rust learning
Completed five Rustlings sessions over August 2025, covering sections 0–15 (variables through generics and traits). Session 1: 2.5 hours of cautious optimism, sections 0–6. Session 2: fought with enum syntax for far longer than reasonable. Session 3: 45 minutes, running on nocturnal sleep schedules. Session 4: two hours on error handling (Section 13) while distracted and restless. Session 5: 30 minutes for generics and traits after a 26-day break. The compiler's strictness was the main friction — borrow checker, lifetime annotations, and the general philosophy of "the compiler knows best." Decided to stop in December 2025. Rust isn't part of the college curriculum (Cand VB6, unfortunately), and the learning investment wasn't paying off for the projects being built. No regrets about trying; no regrets about stopping.
