"textContent": "Beeching is the person who was tasked with cutting costs at british rail in the 60s. His report suggested closing about a third of the stations in britain at the time. A lot of these closures were short sighted and most \"new\" railways opening in britain are reopening lines that were closed under him.\n\nWhile he is the face of these closures, I think then transport minister Ernest Marples should be under a lot more scrutiny.
