Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to 11 to strengthen strategic maritime partnerships.

New Delhi announced the six-day tour on Friday to accelerate its geopolitical engagement in the eastern Indian Ocean under the regional Act East policy framework.

What is the schedule for PM Modi's visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Indonesia from July 6 to 8 before heading to Australia for an annual bilateral summit on July 8 to 10.

The extensive Indo-Pacific maritime tour will conclude with high-level trade and diplomatic talks in New Zealand on July 10 and 11.

Senior foreign ministry official Rudrendra Tandon told reporters during a Friday news briefing that Indian diplomatic focus has formally shifted to the eastern maritime zones.

This strategic transition follows recent high-profile prime ministerial visits to Mauritius and Seychelles to secure vital trade routes against rising regional challenges.

Indian authorities intend to utilize this comprehensive diplomatic outreach to expand corporate investments and implement defensive border parameters with global partners.

Modi will arrive in Jakarta on July 6 to review bilateral cooperation across maritime security, defense infrastructure, and international trade investments.

The prime minister will also travel to the historic city of Yogyakarta to visit the famous UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex. Indian and Indonesian experts are currently planning to collaborate on extensive cultural conservation work to protect the ancient religious sanctuary.

The upcoming diplomatic sessions aim to expand upon previous strategic discussions held during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's official state visit to India last year. Subianto previously attended the historic Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi to initiate long-term defense negotiations between the two Asian powers.

Leaders hope this upcoming encounter will solidify specific naval patrol agreements and improve counter-terrorism coordination across the shared oceanic borders.

Why is India expanding its strategic partnership with Australia and New Zealand?

Modi will visit Australia from July 8 to 10 to participate in the third India-Australia Annual Summit with regional security counterparts. This institutional dialogue functions as a primary diplomatic pillar under the comprehensive strategic partnership that the two allies originally launched in 2020.

Foreign policy experts plan to review ongoing defense protocols while establishing newer collaborative frameworks for critical minerals, cybersecurity, and global supply chain resilience.

The prime minister will conclude the three-nation tour in New Zealand by holding high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

Tandon noted that diplomatic relations have gathered significant momentum since Luxon executed an official state visit to India during the previous year.

That historical encounter provided an important inflection point for the relationship and culminated in the rapid signing of a comprehensive free trade pact.

The India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement was signed on April 27 this year to eliminate restrictive duties on all Indian exports. The landmark economic treaty also secured a $20 billion investment commitment from New Zealand to fund domestic infrastructure over the next 15 years.

\Indian officials expect this financial cooperation to enhance emerging technologies and stabilize international supply chains across the wider Indo-Pacific territory.
