Following a first round of Iran-US talks in Switzerland, Bern said Monday that conditions were in place for technical discussions to resume immediately.

Teams led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iran's Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met at the Burgenstock resort on Sunday, under a two-month negotiating period set out in a preliminary deal agreed last week.

What came out of the first round of Iran-US talks in Switzerland?

Negotiators agreed a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days and established a contact channel to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and end fighting in Lebanon. Mediators Pakistan and Qatar announced the agreement early Monday.

Switzerland said the outcome created the conditions for immediate technical discussions to follow.

What did Switzerland say after the Burgenstock talks?

The Swiss foreign ministry welcomed the progress made during overnight diplomatic discussions that ran from 21 to 22 June at Burgenstock.

It said the agreed roadmap created conditions for the immediate resumption of new technical discussions. Technical talks have been scheduled to continue at the resort for the remainder of the week.

What is Switzerland's role in the Iran-US negotiations?

Switzerland is serving as the facilitator of the talks, drawing on its longstanding tradition of good offices diplomacy.

The foreign ministry said it remained ready to support the process. It added that its aim is for Swiss diplomacy to contribute to de-escalation, stability, and peace.
