Islamabad court sentences accused to death in Sana Yousaf murder case

An Islamabad court on Tuesday sentenced Umer Hayat to death in the murder case of social media content creator Sana Yousaf, who was shot dead in the Pakistani capital on June 2, 2025.

The verdict came a day after the court recorded the final statement of the accused, who had denied all charges and alleged that the case had been fabricated by investigators under public and political pressure.

The court had earlier adjourned proceedings until Tuesday for final arguments before announcing its judgment in the high-profile case, which has drawn widespread public attention in Pakistan’s rapidly growing social media landscape.

Sana Yousaf, a content creator, was killed in Islamabad in June 2025, prompting an investigation that led to the arrest of Umer Hayat. Prosecutors alleged his involvement in the fatal shooting, while the defense maintained that he had been falsely implicated.
