"textContent": "\n\n\n\nU.S. President Donald Trump is sending Vice President JD Vance and senior negotiators to Pakistan for talks with Iran beginning Saturday, the White House said, as diplomatic efforts continue following a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.\n\nTrump “is dispatching his negotiating team led by the vice president of the United States, JD Vance, special envoy (Steve) Witkoff and Mr. (Jared) Kushner to Islamabad for talks this weekend,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a news conference on Wednesday.\n\n> View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nukta Pakistan (@nukta.pakistan)\n>\n\n\n\n\nThe announcement signals a new phase of negotiations aimed at stabilizing the region after weeks of escalating conflict and market turmoil tied to tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.\n\nLeavitt also confirmed that Washington had held high-level discussions with China regarding Iran, though she declined to provide details.\n\n“With respect to China, there were conversations that took place between top levels of our government and China’s government,” she told reporters.\n\nThe diplomatic push comes as the Trump administration reassesses broader security relationships. The White House said NATO had “turned their backs” on the United States, ahead of a meeting between Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.\n\nLeavitt said Trump would discuss the possibility of the United States leaving the alliance during those talks, a move that could significantly reshape transatlantic security arrangements.\n\nAt the same time, Washington continues consultations with Israel on expanding ceasefire arrangements beyond Iran. Trump is expected to keep discussing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu whether Lebanon could be included in a broader agreement.\n\n“This will continue to be discussed, I am sure, between the president and Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu, the United States and Israel and all of the parties involved,” Leavitt said.\n\nThe White House also issued a sharp warning to Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz, the critical global energy shipping route, following reports that the waterway remained closed despite the ceasefire.\n\nAny continued closure “is completely unacceptable,” Leavitt said.\n\n“I will reiterate the president’s expectation and demand that the Strait of Hormuz is reopened immediately, quickly and safely,” she added.\n\nThe upcoming talks in Islamabad are expected to focus on implementing ceasefire terms, restoring freedom of navigation in the Gulf and exploring a broader diplomatic framework to prevent renewed fighting. Officials have not disclosed how long the negotiations are expected to last.",
