"textContent": "\n\n\n\nPakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed direct flight operations to London after a six-year suspension, marking a milestone for the national carrier’s international network.\n\nThe inaugural flight, PK-785, departed from Islamabad to London with 325 passengers on board. The flight was seen off at Islamabad International Airport by Secretary Defense Lt. Gen. (retd.) Muhammad Ali and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott.\n\nA ceremony was held at the airport prior to departure, attended by aviation officials including Arif Habib, chairman of the PIA Consortium. A cake-cutting event took place, along with a lucky draw in which a 660cc car was awarded to one passenger. Other travelers also received gifts.\n\nSpeaking at the event, the defense secretary said the resumption of flights would help strengthen ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The British high commissioner congratulated PIA on restarting its London operations.\n\nPIA said the restored route would facilitate travel for more than 1.6 million Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom by providing direct connectivity between the two countries.\n\nThe airline also announced plans to expand its service, launching a weekly flight from Lahore to London starting March 30. Initially, PIA will operate four weekly flights between Pakistan and London, including three from Islamabad and one from Lahore.\n\nLondon holds historical importance for PIA as the airline’s first international destination, with ties spanning more than 71 years.",
