WASHINGTON, July 7, 2026 – SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell announced she and her husband are gifting a share of their SpaceX stock to fund Trump Accounts for American children.

“We have been fortunate in our careers and hope this gift encourages the next generation to continue the journey of enabling humanity to live and fly amongst the stars,” Shotwell said in an X post.

SpaceX investor Sawyer Merritt told his X followers that the SpaceX stock is worth roughly $325 million to help more than two million children in the U.S.

Trump Accounts, also known as the Invest America Program, is a federal initiative created to help children build wealth early on through investing. Children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec.31, 2028 qualify to receive $1,000 in federal government contributions to kickstart the account.

Anyone can chip in to help accounts grow, including family and private donors. Last July, Charter Communications announced the company would match the $1,000 investment for the children of Charter employees.

Shotwell explained that her contributions to the program will go to children that live in areas that have lower average household incomes in the Central Texas area.

Last month, SpaceX went public with founder Elon Musk becoming the world’s first trillionaire. As of June 17, SpaceX officially raised a total of $85.7 billion in its initial public offering.

Trump Accounts were established by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law on July 4, 2025.
