Spectrum Creates Ultra-Low-Latency Internet
WASHINGTON, May 20, 2026 – Spectrum, the broadband brand of Charter Communications, is rolling out an ultra-low-latency internet to give users a faster and smoother internet connection.
Charter is joining T-Mobile in using the capability powered by L4S, a networking technology that decreases delays and offers low latency, low loss, and scalable throughput. Charter is working with companies like NVIDIA and other L4S developers to ensure standards are met to optimize the product.
Latency refers to the time it takes for data to pass from one network to another, so the lower the latency, the better the connection. With customers increasingly relying on instant connections, lower latency offers a better internet user experience by eliminating delays in video calls, gaming, AI applications, and more.
Danny Bowman , Executive Vice President of Product for Charter Communications, said that the elimination of delays will bring more immediate results for users, allowing for real-time responsiveness that is crucial in today’s applications.
“Speed gets you there, but latency determines how it feels once you arrive,” said Bowman. The online experience becomes faster, smoother, and more natural when latency is reduced.
The service will be available to Spectrum Internet users at no additional cost, with the technology expanding to markets across the U.S. Customers in the areas of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; Reno, Nev.; Rochester, Minn.; and St. Louis, Mo. already have access to the technology, as the company continues to bring enhanced connectivity to customers nationwide.
