"textContent": "April 9, 2025 — Harris County, Texas, has partnered with national nonprofit US Ignite to develop a new countywide broadband plan aimed at expanding internet access and closing the digital divide. With a population of 4.8 million, Harris County is the third-largest county in the United States and the home of the city of Houston.\n\nThe initiative will provide Harris County with a comprehensive roadmap for broadband expansion, focusing on affordability, accessibility, infrastructure development, and digital equity. US Ignite will assess the county’s current broadband efforts and align them with best practices, technological advancements, and evolving policy landscapes.\n\n“Reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury—it’s necessary for economic opportunity,” said **Sindu Menon** , Chief Information Officer and Executive Director of Harris County Universal Services.\n\nThe updated broadband plan will also incorporate input from local stakeholders to ensure the strategy addresses community needs. US Ignite’s work will position the county to compete for state and federal funding opportunities tied to broadband deployment.\n\n“As a nonprofit with over a decade of experience helping communities tackle connectivity challenges, we’re excited to support Harris County’s vision,” said **Domenick Lasorsa** , US Ignite Community Innovation Manager.\n\nThe final plan is expected to be delivered to county officials in May. It will serve as a long-term guide to strengthen digital infrastructure and improve access to services such as education, healthcare, and employment.",
