"textContent": "WASHINGTON, April 18, 2025 – President **Donald Trump** has extended a federal hiring freeze in an effort to reduce inefficiencies in executive departments and agencies.\n\nPresident Trump lengthened the hiring freeze in a _Memorandum released Thursday_. In it, he directed the federal government not to fill any vacant positions or create any new jobs until July 15, 2025.\n\nThe memorandum dovetailed with _another Presidential Memorandum_ released by the president on his first day in office, which originally directed the federal government to stop hiring until April 20, 2025.\n\nThe freeze included all executive agency positions, with exceptions for immigration enforcement, the military, national security, the Office of the President, and public safety.\n\nThe president emphasized that agencies should make efficient use of existing personnel and funding to maintain their essential services while making efforts to improve the delivery of those services.\n\nNeither the Federal Communications Commission Office of Media Relations nor Chairman **Brendan Carr’s** office responded to emails asking if the freeze applied to the FCC.",
