"textContent": "Gorillaz have always been a band that avoided being put into a box – through their music, as a cultural entity, and as an experience. But there is one box they _do_ love putting themselves into: playing Scotiabank Arena in early October every 4 years!\n\nTheir new album, _The Mountain_ mutates their formula once again, introducing Hindustani classical music and worldbeat into their already kaleidoscopic palette. It's been getting a rush of critical praise and is shaping up to be their most celebrated album in over a decade. Unlike 2020's _Song Machine_ , fans won't have to wait two years to hear it live. But can that buzz push them into **Buy** territory, or are you better off **Waiting** for a better deal? Let's get into it.\n\n## I write presale breakdowns for the biggest shows\n\nSubscribe to be the first to read them\n\nSubscribe\n\nEmail sent! Check your inbox to complete your signup.\n\nNo spam. Here are the best places to gauge sentiment:\n\n * Instagram Announcement\n * Facebook Announcement\n * /r/Gorillaz Tour Discussion Thread\n\n\n\n### Seating Map\n\nFully GA floor for Gorillaz!\n\n### šŸ’”**How I rate shows**\n\n * Various factors are considered, including community sentiment, time since the last show, pricing, proximity to nearby dates, and more\n * Each factor is given a positive or negative score. Positive scores swing in the direction of **Buy** , and negative scores swing towards **Wait**\n * Factors sum up to one score, which becomes the FaceValue Verdict: **Buy or Wait**\n\n\n\n* * *\n\n## The factors\n\nHere's everything pushing this presale up or down the FaceValue scale.\n\n### First show in 4 years ++\n\nFunny enough, the gap between this show and their last is nearly identical to the gap between the two previous ones. All three have been at Scotiabank Arena in early October. It's a consistent schedule, but the conditions are much different. Despite a lengthy absence from the city, you almost get the sense that Toronto is used to the wait.\n\nGorillaz šŸ¤ Leap years šŸ¤ Blessing Toronto every 4 years\n\n### Only two Canadian dates +\n\nA tale as old as the nation itself: the entirety of Canada is funneled into either Toronto or Montreal if they want a chance at seeing Gorillaz without crossing borders.\n\n### The new album is _hot_**and** fresh __ +\n\nWhile it's too early for Billboard sales figures, we do know that _The Mountain_ is shaping up to be Gorillaz's most critically acclaimed work since 2010's _Plastic Beach_. Fans are heralding it as a return to the inventive, psychedelic sound that defined their early works. It also has the advantage of arriving in such close proximity to the tour. 2020's COVID project _Song Machine, Season One_ was no slouch in critical acclaim too, but it took two years following its release for fans to enjoy it live. By that point, it had fallen out of flavor enough to only make up two songs in the tour setlist.\n\nCritic and user scores aggregated on AOTY.org\n\n### The promo has been stellar +\n\nDamon and Co. have been on fire with regards to the promo cycle for _The Mountain_ :\n\n * They ran an exhibition in LA called _House of Kong_ that reignited cultural buzz around the group.\n * They played a pair of sold-out shows at the Hollywood Palladium, where resale hovered around an eye-watering 400 USD just to get in the door.\n * They'll be making their SNL debut this weekend, performing just two days before the general sale.\n\n\n\nThey couldn't have timed the tour announcement any better. Well, unless they had a time machine...\n\n### They're still far from their cultural peak --\n\nGoogle Trends for Gorillaz in Canada\n\nYes, they're musical and cultural landmarks with global influence, but they're still a long shot away from the relevance they had back in the _Demon Days_. The casual fan to this day is still going to be most energized by the prospect of hearing generational classics _Feel Good Inc._ , _Clint Eastwood_ , and _On Melancholy Hill_.__ Beyond just lacking a radio hit,_The Mountain_ is a project that's more meditative and spiritual. It's an album that's more likely to pack out three nights at Massey Hall than one that forces an instant SBA sell-out.\n\n### 2022's show went below face value -\n\nIt was a surprise to me when I was checking Ticketmaster on show day back in 2022 to see unsold seats and reports of people trying to get rid of their tickets at a loss. So surprising that I still hang onto the memory. To be fair, then-rising star, now-superstar Fred again was performing the same night at History, which potentially whisked away the exact number of fans that would have guaranteed a clean sell-out for Gorillaz. I would know, I was one of them!\n\n### Pricing is looking solid +\n\nSomething I've noticed when looking back at older threads for the 2022 tour is how shocked fans were by ticket prices.\n\n😔\n\n __\"$180 for pit?? Are they out of their mind?\" - An approximation of a 2022 Reddit comment I am now too lazy to dig up__\n\nHow times have changed... $180 for pit sounds like a borderline steal for arena shows by today's standards. The Amex sale for Gorillaz took place today and gave us an early look at ticket pricing. Here's how they compare to the 2026 Scotiabank Arena average:\n\n * **Pit** : $194.75 (34% below average)\n * **100s** : $147.50 - $693.68 (average)\n * **300s** : $95.50 - $165.60 (7% below average)\n * **VIP** : $493.64 - $701.72 (25% below average)\n\n\n\nNot bad! Especially considering how much **concert** you get from a Gorillaz show (if you've seen them before, you know!) Having a fully GA floor drastically brings down the average floor ticket cost compared to seated floors, which often top out in the thousands. With prices this good, it lowers the amount you can potentially save by waiting, making a compelling case for buying early.\n\n* * *\n\nMy recommendation is to **Buy**. While I do think there will be some opportunities to score below face value, the affordable pricing and new album buzz make for a compelling case to lock in early.\n\n## Join the FaceValue community\n\nHelping you save money on Toronto's biggest concerts\n\nSubscribe\n\nEmail sent!
