"textContent": "# Feature request: Save prompts, answers, and full chats as Library files\n\n## Summary\n\nI would like to request a native ChatGPT feature that allows users to save:\n\n * an individual prompt,\n\n * a single assistant answer,\n\n * selected parts of a conversation,\n\n * or an entire chat\n\n\n\n\nas a reusable file in the ChatGPT Library.\n\nThis would make the Library much more useful as a place for preserving high-value work, reusable workflows, research trails, and creative or technical development processes.\n\n## Current limitation\n\nAt the moment, users can manually copy content out of a chat or ask ChatGPT to generate a file from the conversation. However, there does not appear to be a simple native action such as:\n\n * “Save prompt to Library”\n\n * “Save answer to Library”\n\n * “Save selected messages to Library”\n\n * “Save full chat to Library”\n\n\n\n\nThis creates friction when a user wants to preserve something useful without manually restructuring or exporting it.\n\n## Proposed functionality\n\nAdd save options directly to prompts, assistant answers, and chats.\n\nFor example:\n\n### 1. Save Prompt\n\nA user could save a prompt as a reusable prompt file or prompt card.\n\nUseful metadata could include:\n\n * title,\n\n * tags,\n\n * project,\n\n * creation date,\n\n * source chat,\n\n * model used,\n\n * user notes,\n\n * optional prompt category.\n\n\n\n\n### 2. Save Answer\n\nA user could save a strong assistant response directly to the Library as a document, note, or reusable artifact.\n\nThis would be useful for:\n\n * explanations,\n\n * code snippets,\n\n * plans,\n\n * summaries,\n\n * research findings,\n\n * creative outputs,\n\n * reusable instructions.\n\n\n\n\n### 3. Save Full Chat\n\nA user could save an entire conversation as a Library file.\n\nPossible formats could include:\n\n * Markdown,\n\n * TXT,\n\n * PDF,\n\n * DOCX,\n\n * JSON,\n\n * structured ChatGPT conversation format.\n\n\n\n\nThis would be helpful for preserving:\n\n * research trails,\n\n * decision logs,\n\n * creative development,\n\n * brainstorming sessions,\n\n * prompt engineering workflows,\n\n * project context,\n\n * long-running analytical conversations.\n\n\n\n\n### 4. Save Selected Messages\n\nA more flexible version could allow users to select specific messages and save only those as a file.\n\nThis would avoid clutter while still preserving the most valuable parts of a conversation.\n\n## Why this would be useful\n\nMany ChatGPT users do not only use chats as temporary conversations. They use them as working spaces for:\n\n * research,\n\n * writing,\n\n * coding,\n\n * creative development,\n\n * strategy,\n\n * learning,\n\n * project planning,\n\n * prompt design,\n\n * documentation.\n\n\n\n\nSome conversations contain important reasoning paths, project decisions, reusable structures, or refined outputs that are worth preserving. A native save-to-Library function would help users turn valuable chat material into durable knowledge assets.\n\n## Suggested user experience\n\nPossible UI options:\n\n * Add a “Save to Library” option in the message menu.\n\n * Add “Save full chat as file” in the chat menu.\n\n * Add “Save selected messages” after multi-selecting messages.\n\n * Allow users to choose file format.\n\n * Allow users to assign the saved file to a Project.\n\n * Automatically include a source link back to the original chat.\n\n * Optionally include timestamps and model information.\n\n\n\n\n## Benefits\n\nThis feature would:\n\n * reduce manual copying,\n\n * improve project continuity,\n\n * make the Library more central and useful,\n\n * support prompt reuse,\n\n * help users preserve high-quality outputs,\n\n * improve workflows for research, writing, coding, education, and creative work.\n\n\n\n\n## Closing thought\n\nThe Library already feels like a natural place for reusable files and generated artifacts. Adding native options to save prompts, answers, selected messages, and complete chats would make it much easier to preserve and reuse the most valuable parts of ChatGPT conversations.\n\nThis would be especially helpful for users who treat ChatGPT not only as a chat interface, but as a workspace for developing ideas, systems, documents, and long-term projects.",
