"textContent": "Summary\n\nI would like ChatGPT to support a **read-only connection to an Obsidian Vault**.\n\nThe goal is **not** to let ChatGPT modify, create, or delete notes. The only purpose would be to allow ChatGPT to search and read Markdown files on demand while answering questions.\n\n## Why this would be useful\n\nMany users build large knowledge bases in Obsidian containing:\n\n * Fictional universes\n * Character profiles\n * Worldbuilding\n * Research notes\n * Technical documentation\n * Personal knowledge management\n * Project documentation\n\n\n\nThese vaults can easily contain hundreds or even thousands of Markdown files.\n\nCurrent Projects and File Library limits are often too small for large Obsidian vaults. Uploading files manually is time-consuming and requires repeating the same work whenever notes are updated.\n\n## Proposed solution\n\nAllow users to connect an Obsidian Vault in **read-only mode**.\n\nChatGPT should be able to:\n\n * Index Markdown files\n * Search the vault when needed\n * Read only the files relevant to the current conversation\n * Follow Obsidian wiki-links between notes\n * Respect folder structure and tags\n\n\n\n## Permissions\n\nThe integration should be strictly read-only.\n\nChatGPT should **never** be able to:\n\n * Edit notes\n * Create notes\n * Delete notes\n * Rename files\n * Change metadata\n\n\n\nThe user should explicitly grant access to a selected vault or folder.\n\n## Example workflow\n\nA writer has a large fictional universe stored in Obsidian.\n\nInstead of uploading hundreds of files, they simply connect the vault.\n\nThen they can ask:\n\n * “Continue Chapter 12.”\n * “What is Lex’s personality according to her profile?”\n * “What are the rules of Black Road?”\n * “Check whether this scene is consistent with the timeline.”\n\n\n\nChatGPT would automatically retrieve only the relevant Markdown files before generating a response.\n\n## Benefits\n\n * Better long-term continuity\n * No repeated file uploads\n * Works with very large knowledge bases\n * Ideal for writers, researchers, developers, and Obsidian users\n * Safe thanks to read-only permissions\n\n\n\nI believe this feature would significantly improve ChatGPT as a long-term creative and knowledge assistant.",
