"textContent": "Title: Codex Usage Visibility Issue and Suggestion for a Unified OpenAI Services Dashboard\n\nHello,\n\nI am a ChatGPT Plus subscriber and a regular Codex user for software development. I would like to report an issue I encountered and share some related feedback regarding usage visibility, quota management, and the overall user experience across OpenAI products.\n\nPlease note that some of the observations below may be specific to my account, environment, or a temporary issue. My goal is simply to provide constructive feedback that may help improve the product experience.\n\n## Issue Observed\n\nRecently, Codex displayed the following message:\n\n“You’re out of Codex messages”\n\nThe system correctly informed me that I had reached a limit and also provided a quota reset date.\n\nHowever, when I opened:\n\n**Settings → Usage & Billing**\n\nthe page displayed:\n\n**“Unable to load usage settings”**\n\nAs a result, I was unable to access detailed information regarding my Codex usage.\n\n## Verification Performed\n\nTo better understand the issue, I verified the following:\n\n * My ChatGPT Plus subscription is active.\n\n * Billing information is available and accessible.\n\n * The OpenAI Platform Usage dashboard is accessible.\n\n * The OpenAI Platform correctly shows $0 API usage and 0 API requests on my account.\n\n * Codex authentication appears functional.\n\n * Codex continues working normally for development tasks.\n\n\n\n\nThe issue appears isolated to usage visibility and quota information.\n\n## User Impact\n\nFrom a user perspective, the system clearly knows:\n\n * That a quota exists.\n\n * That the quota has been exhausted.\n\n * When the quota will reset.\n\n\n\n\nHowever, I cannot see:\n\n * Total quota.\n\n * Used quota.\n\n * Remaining quota.\n\n * Usage history.\n\n * Consumption trends.\n\n\n\n\nThis makes it difficult to monitor usage proactively and avoid unexpected interruptions.\n\n## Additional Observation\n\nWhile investigating this issue, I noticed that usage information is currently spread across multiple OpenAI products and dashboards.\n\nFor example:\n\n * ChatGPT displays subscription and billing information.\n\n * The OpenAI Platform displays API usage and billing.\n\n * Codex appears to have its own quota system.\n\n * Other OpenAI services may have separate usage and limit information.\n\n\n\n\nAs a user, it is difficult to understand:\n\n * Which OpenAI services are associated with my account.\n\n * Which limits apply to each service.\n\n * How much of each quota has been consumed.\n\n * When each quota resets.\n\n\n\n\n## Suggestion: Unified OpenAI Services Dashboard\n\nA unified account dashboard could provide a much clearer experience.\n\nFor example, it could display:\n\n * ChatGPT Plus\n\n * Codex\n\n * OpenAI API Platform\n\n * Sora\n\n * GPTs\n\n * Deep Research\n\n * Future OpenAI services\n\n\n\n\nFor each service:\n\n * Status\n\n * Active subscription\n\n * Current usage\n\n * Remaining quota\n\n * Reset dates\n\n * Historical consumption\n\n\n\n\nThis would provide users with a complete view of the OpenAI services associated with their account.\n\n## Suggested Improvements for Codex\n\nA dedicated Codex usage dashboard could display:\n\n * Total quota\n\n * Used quota\n\n * Remaining quota\n\n * Percentage consumed\n\n * Reset date and time\n\n * Historical usage by billing cycle\n\n * Optional usage breakdown by model\n\n\n\n\nExample:\n\nUsed: 420 / 500\n\nRemaining: 80\n\nReset: 2026-06-30 03:51 UTC\n\nThis would significantly improve transparency and predictability.\n\n## Technical Observation\n\nOne observation that stood out during my investigation is that the system clearly knows when a quota has been exhausted and when it will reset.\n\nHowever, that information is not currently visible through the user interface.\n\nThe current experience gives the impression that usage information exists internally but is not fully surfaced through the user interface.\n\nThis may be an isolated issue affecting my account, or it may simply reflect a current product limitation. Either way, improving visibility into usage and quota information would provide substantial value to users.\n\n## Additional UX Feedback\n\nWhile preparing this report, I also collected multiple screenshots during troubleshooting. However, I could not find a clear way to attach multiple screenshots through the bug reporting interface, and the form appears to only support the automatically captured screenshot.\n\nIf additional screenshot attachments are not currently supported, making this capability more visible could help users provide better diagnostic information.\n\n## Environment\n\n * ChatGPT Plus\n\n * Codex Desktop\n\n * Ubuntu 24.04\n\n * Issue observed on June 2026\n\n\n\n\n## Closing Remarks\n\nI enjoy using ChatGPT and Codex and consider them among the most useful software development tools available today.\n\nMy intention with this report is simply to provide constructive feedback that may help improve transparency, observability, quota management, and user experience.\n\nIf the team is ever interested in additional technical feedback regarding UX, observability, distributed systems architecture, service integration, infrastructure, or generally anything involving computers and software systems, I would be happy to contribute constructive ideas and feedback.\n\nThank you for your time and for building such powerful tools.\n\nBest regards,\n\nJoão Alves",
