ChatGPT Pro Account Deactivated Overnight While Codex Was Running – Appeal Already Submitted

I’m posting to see if anyone has gone through a similar situation and can share their experience with the appeal process. Last night, my ChatGPT Pro account was unexpectedly deactivated while a Codex task was running. When I woke up this morning, I found that I could no longer access the account and had received the following email: “Your account has been deactivated because recent activity violated our Terms and Usage Policies.” The email did not specify what activity allegedly violated the policies. Some context: * The account had an active ChatGPT Pro subscription. * At the time of deactivation, Codex was running overnight on one of my software projects. * The project involved algorithmic trading research and development, including strategy research, backtesting, simulation, paper-trading workflows, exchange connectivity, and general software development. * The account was otherwise used primarily for coding, documentation, research, and development work. * I am not aware of any activity that intentionally violated OpenAI’s Terms of Service or Usage Policies. Timeline: * 9 June 2026, approximately 05:07 CEST (11:07 SGT): received the account deactivation email. * 9 June 2026, approximately 09:48 CEST (15:48 SGT): submitted an appeal through the official OpenAI appeal process. * OpenAI acknowledged receipt of the appeal, which is currently under review. I understand that nobody here can determine the reason for the deactivation, and I’m not asking for speculation about that. I’m mainly interested in hearing from others who have gone through the appeal process. A few questions: 1. Has anyone else experienced a sudden account deactivation while using Codex for software development or research projects? 2. How long did it take to receive a response to your appeal? 3. If your appeal was successful, was your account access fully restored? 4. If your appeal was denied, what options were available regarding an active Pro subscription? Any experiences or timelines would be appreciated. Thanks.
