UX improvement proposal regarding the current app/artifact/mini-tool experience inside ChatGPT
Hello OpenAI Team,
I would like to submit a comprehensive product and UX improvement proposal regarding the current app/artifact/mini-tool experience inside ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is increasingly evolving from a traditional chatbot into a platform for:
interactive tools
mini applications
dashboards
productivity systems
prototyping
AI-assisted workflows
personal operating environments
However, there are currently several structural UX and platform limitations preventing this experience from reaching its full potential.
1. Missing Native Artifact / Mini-App Environment
Problem
When ChatGPT generates:
HTML files
mini web apps
trackers
dashboards
React/JSX components
interactive tools
… there is no stable integrated runtime environment for these artifacts.
Especially on iOS and mobile devices:
JavaScript execution can behave inconsistently
local HTML previews render unreliably
state management/checklists may fail
dynamic content may appear blank
interactivity feels fragile
the UX feels disconnected from the chat experience
This often creates the impression that the generated application is broken, even when the code itself is correct.
2. Comparison to Claude Artifacts
Claude currently provides a significantly more advanced artifact experience with:
embedded React/JSX rendering
live state management
interactive components
integrated sandbox execution
stable previews directly inside the chat
app-like UX
This feels much closer to:
CodeSandbox
StackBlitz
Vercel Preview
modern low-code/prototyping tools
… than the current ChatGPT experience.
3. Proposal: Native Artifact / Mini-App Mode
ChatGPT should include a dedicated native “Artifact” or “Mini-App” mode.
Supported Technologies
React
JSX
HTML/CSS/JavaScript
Tailwind CSS
lightweight Next.js components
local state management
basic data persistence
4. Embedded Sandbox / Runtime
A secure runtime environment directly inside ChatGPT.
This would allow:
checklists
trackers
dashboards
Kanban boards
calculators
productivity tools
workflow systems
… to function as real interactive applications inside the chat interface.
5. Mobile Optimization (Especially iOS)
The current HTML preview experience on iOS feels heavily limited.
Suggested improvements:
more reliable JavaScript execution
improved local HTML support
consistent rendering behavior
touch/scroll optimization
persistent local state handling
more native app-like UX
6. Dedicated Area for Saved Mini-Apps (“My Apps”)
This is likely the most important feature request.
Problem
When users create useful mini-apps:
they disappear inside old conversations
they are difficult to rediscover
they often need to be regenerated
there is no centralized organization system
ChatGPT is no longer generating only responses — it is generating actual digital tools.
These tools need a permanent home.
7. Proposal: “My Apps” / Artifact Library
A dedicated area similar to:
Media
Files
GPTs
… but specifically for:
mini-apps
dashboards
interactive tools
prototypes
workflow systems
personal utilities
8. Features of the App Library
Users should be able to:
save apps
rename apps
categorize apps
add tags
favorite apps
duplicate apps
version apps
export apps
share apps
continue editing apps
9. Kanban / Board Organization System
A visual organizational system would be extremely valuable.
Example:
Fitness Apps
Calculation Apps
Business Tools
Experiments
Workout Tracker
Tax Calculator
CRM Tool
UI Tests
Supplement Tracker
Compound Interest Tool
Proposal Generator
MVP Ideas
Recovery Dashboard
ROI Calculator
Automations
Playground
Apps could be organized using drag-and-drop interactions.
10. Categories & Collections
Possible categories:
Fitness
Finance
Productivity
Business
Learning
Trackers
Dashboards
Calculators
Automations
Experiments
AI Tools
11. Why This Is Strategically Important
ChatGPT is increasingly becoming:
a personal operating system
an AI workspace
a productivity platform
a prototyping environment
a personal tool builder
Many users already use ChatGPT not only for answers, but to:
organize processes
build tools
create workflows
prototype products
manage personal systems
A true artifact/mini-app infrastructure would massively expand this capability.
12. Long-Term Vision
With:
embedded artifacts
app libraries
integrated runtimes
Kanban organization
persistent storage
mobile/PWA support
… ChatGPT could evolve into:
a personal AI app builder
a no-code AI companion
an AI workspace
a personal digital operating system
This would create enormous value for:
power users
developers
entrepreneurs
students
productivity users
fitness users
internal company workflows
MVP/product development
Thank you.
