ZIP uploads accepted but cannot be extracted in ChatGPT Business
I’m running into a repeatable issue with .zip files in a ChatGPT Business workspace and wanted to ask whether this is expected behavior, a limitation, or possibly a workspace/tooling bug.
I am a ChatGPT Business customer. When I upload a .zip file, ChatGPT appears to accept the upload, but the assistant then reports that its tools are erroring out and it cannot actually unpack, extract, inspect, or open the archive contents.
What makes this confusing is that .zip files seem to work as expected on Personal/Plus plans, but not in my Business workspace. I am wondering whether this is related to workspace credits, Business plan file-tool permissions, or some difference in how file attachments are exposed to the assistant/tool environment for Business customers.
Observed behavior:
I upload a
.zipfile in ChatGPT Business. The upload appears to succeed.
I ask ChatGPT to inspect or extract the ZIP.
ChatGPT says the tools keep erroring out and it cannot unpack/open the archive.
The same general workflow appears to work on Personal/Plus.
Questions:
Are
.zipfiles officially supported for analysis/extraction in ChatGPT Business? Is there any dependency on Business workspace credits for file extraction or tool access?
Are ZIP uploads accepted by the UI but not actually supported by the assistant’s file-analysis tools in Business workspaces?
Is this a known limitation or regression?
Is there any recommended workaround besides manually extracting the archive locally and uploading the files individually?
I am not asking about a specific corrupted archive; the issue appears to be that ZIP upload succeeds, but the assistant cannot access or extract the contents afterward.
Any clarification from OpenAI or other Business users who have seen this would be appreciated.
