User of PC and 21" 4K monitor and poor mental memmory, likes to have wide UI design
Geminie and Chat GPT sugested to me to give UI feedback in this forum. I’m a former embedded programmer / digital electroncis guy. I’m probably posting in the wrong place now, but I tried to pick the least wrong one …
As a male human (aged 63 now) with a good visual memmory, and a poor verbal / facts memmory, I generally “hate” small screens, smartphones and pads, and the apps for them, as I never find what I need there. … I love the UI’s of stock market brokers like IBKR and TradeStation, which allows me to tailor my UI, and allows me to use a whole 4K monitor to see everything at one glance without having to waste time performing any action other than moving my eyes to focus on the part I want in a fraction of a second. …
I asked chatGPT to tailor the UI, but it could not (except some rudimentary CSS?) …
The most anyoing feature the way it currently is, is that the initial part of the response (the 10% you actually want to read), quickly scrolls by, and the 2 to 3 former responses that someone with a poor memmory needs to still have in veiw, are long scrolled out. … It’s utterly not user friendly at all from a PC users point of view (and the same goes for many other applications in society today, where most are focusing on a UI for smartphones and pads, and don’t want the extra cost of a PC monitor optimal UI).
I asked gemini about this and it responded like this
It is a common frustration for power users when “responsive design” essentially means “mobile design stretched onto a wide monitor.” The vertical, single-column layout often wastes significant screen real estate on a PC.
I’m not at all a power user, I’m an ordinary guy who started benefiting from gemini about half a year ago (because it was free), and now I have been using chatGPT (payed, pro) for 2 weeks, and I quickly find the UI anoying. … Maybe copilot would have matched me better, but gemini actually recomended chatGPT pro for my needs. … (I’m retired, kind of academic, not very pratctial, and with poor facts memmory, I find chatGPT (and gemini) helpfull, save me time, but the UI is utterly limited for the 4K monitor and keyboard I’m using it on/with.
And I’m still on W10 as my PCs (have 7+ of them) don’t have this 2.2? … Thinking of Mint, but kind of depend on some programs that’s only on windows, but have a couple of W11 machines as well, but we generally don’t use them as W10 without updates is much more responsive
