Request a new feature for ChatGPT

I would like to suggest adding a visual indicator (perhaps a percentage bar) that shows how close a conversation is to its context limit.

The Problem: Currently, users often hit the context window limit unexpectedly. This leads to the model “forgetting” earlier instructions or cutting off mid-sentence, which disrupts the workflow.

The Solution: A simple indicator would allow users to:

• See when the chat is nearing its capacity.

• Proactively summarize the work while the model still has full context.

• Seamlessly transition to a new chat with a “context dump” before performance degrades.

This small UI addition would greatly improve the user experience for long-term projects and complex tasks.
