Autopay Fails After Multiple Auto-Recharge Attempts in a Short Time (Manual Payment Works Fine)

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with OpenAI’s autopay / auto-recharge for API credits and wanted to check if others have experienced something similar.

I have a credit card set up for autopay, and generally it works fine. However, when the auto-recharge gets triggered multiple times within a short time window , the payments start failing.

Typical pattern:

• The first 2–3 auto-recharges work successfully

• These usually happen within 1–2 hours

• After that, the subsequent auto-recharge fails

• At that point, I have to manually recharge , which works perfectly with the same card

• After the manual recharge, I need to re-enable autopay again

This has been happening consistently for the past ~2 months.

A few additional details:

• The same credit card works fine for manual payments

• There are no issues with the card limit or bank

• The failure seems specifically related to multiple auto-charges in quick succession

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, did you find a workaround or identify the cause?
