Is 300 characters enough?
One of the many things that makes Bluesky deferent from most social media platforms (besides the whole open source thing) is the character limit, on Bluesky by default you get a max of 300 characters per post, if you need more you start a “threaded post” and while the character limit can be annoying some times is 300 characters enough why not 500 characters?
Threads and Mastodon both have a 500-character limit so why not Bluesky?
Bluesky is a microblogging platform, or at least that’s what Wikipedia says, so it doesn’t need the extra characters but sometimes you're going to run into “dang it, I’m 3 characters over the limit” so now you need to start a threaded post all because of those 3 extra characters.
Threads is still a microblogging platform but it ain’t Meta has introduced a new longer post feature so now it's more of a blog.
But I feel like the 300 character limit is just right, it’s at a nice even 300 and it isn’t too small that you need to constantly make threaded posts but more like an every so often thing.
