"What if I took some horrible, hidden part of myself and put it in that tattoo?" Yellow Veil Pics has unveiled an official trailer for an indie LGBTQ romantic thriller film called The Serpent's Skin, opening in theaters starting in March. This is the sixth feature film made by the prolific 21-year-old Australian indie filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay, also of T Blockers and Satranic Panic. The Serpent's Skin is a "supernatural queer romance thriller" for lovers of Buffy, Charmed, and the early films of Gregg Araki. "Alice Maio Mackay [is] a ferocious explorer of genre with incisive taste that's unique to her lived experience." After escaping from her transphobic hometown, Anna meets goth tattoo artist Gen. They bond over shared supernatural abilities and a romance begins, but Gen's tattoo work accidentally conjures a demon before their romance can bloom. The pair need to face their insecurities in order to defeat evil. The indie film stars Alexandra McVicker, Avalon Fast, Scott Major, Charlotte Chimes, Jordan Dulieu, and Patty Glavieux. This looks like a vivid, neon spin on supernatural romance that feels like an homage to Gregg Araki with its own edge. Enjoy.
