A Rainy-Day Kyoto Guide

Hi everyone,

Rainy season is arriving in Kyoto, so I put together a new guide:

Things to Do on Rainy Days in Kyoto

Kyoto in the rain can be beautiful, but tsuyu (梅雨; the rainy season, usually most of June) is also humid and tiring if you try to spend the whole day outside. The guide is about making a rainy day feel slower and more intentional: one short outdoor stop, then time indoors for tea, museums, covered shopping streets, wagashi, or ikebana.

I included a few places I like, including hydrangea spots, quiet gardens, covered shopping arcades, and even a small wagashi (traditional Japanese candy) shop near Kyoto Gyoen that our daughter loves.

If you have a favorite rainy-day place in Kyoto, I would love to hear it. Café, garden, museum, shop, temple, or small neighborhood recommendations are all welcome.

Just reply to this email with your suggestion (or contact me if you're on the website). I may add a few reader recommendations to the guide as it grows.

I hope you enjoy the Rainy Day guide.

With gratitude,

Ryoko
