"textContent": "Sometime around February last year, I setup my comments system using ntfy. I think it’s actually pretty neat how it works and I’ve barely received any spam. I’ve kept it bare-bones since people rarely comment these days. Unless there’s an edgy or controversial post; there’s barely any exchange. And that’s perfectly fine too, I think. For what I write here is just for my future self and to scratch that itch of doing something creative and fun.\n\nWhat irks me though is that there are some really good blogs out there that just do not have any form of accepting comments/feedback. I guess they just don’t want any engagement? Or just don’t see the benefit of comments over the likely spam they anticipate? But in general, there’s way too much friction to participation for individual blogs. Unless, you’re part of some sort of silo - WordPress, Substack, Medium etc which have their own ecosystem; Meaningful conversations rarely happen.\n\nThe Indieweb seemed to have an interesting take but it’s way too technical for a regular bloke. Micro.blog seems to be one of the only few quasi-ecosystems that facilitates engaging conversations for independent blogs. The more recently launched Bubbles is a great step in shoring up non-tech blogs but engagement still seems ’low’? Maybe it’s too early to judge?\n\nFor all this progress in technology, there’s gotta be something more simple and intuitive. And until then maybe that’s just pure simple email? If you have a blog out there, maybe just leave a note with an email alias that someone could respond to? 🔗",
