Escalating tensions in the Middle East are exposing a critical weak point in the global food system, as the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 30% of internationally traded fertilisers pass, faces potential disruption. With fertiliser markets already strained by recent geopolitical shocks, any sustained interruption could drive up input costs, reduce crop yields and trigger wider food price inflation.
