Zardari, Mohsin Naqvi, Dar welcome US–Iran agreement, hail prospects for regional stability

WEB DESK: President Asif Ali Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday welcomed the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, terming it a significant step towards regional peace and stability.

In a statement, President Zardari said he welcomed the MoU, which would hopefully pave the way for a final agreement and lay the foundation for durable and comprehensive peace in the region.

He noted that Pakistan had consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy during this difficult period.

Leaders highlight Pakistan’s role in mediation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan warmly welcomed the understanding reached between the two countries.

He described the breakthrough as a reflection of sustained diplomatic engagement and the choice of dialogue over confrontation.

Dar said Pakistan had remained actively engaged with all concerned parties and consistently advocated restraint and constructive dialogue.

He appreciated the trust placed in Pakistan by the leadership of both the United States and Iran, and expressed gratitude to brotherly countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye and Egypt, as well as the United Nations and other international partners.

He looked forward to the formal signing ceremony scheduled for 19 June in Geneva.

Naqvi joins chorus of praise

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also welcomed the development, joining senior government figures in acknowledging Pakistan’s contribution to the peace efforts.

The statements come as officials emphasised that the agreement would provide much-needed stability to global markets and economies, particularly for developing nations vulnerable to regional volatility.

Pakistani leaders reiterated their commitment to multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
